Lodging

Our wedding will be held in the small resort village of Panajachel (next to Lake Atitlán), which is approximately 3 hours from Guatemala City. We definitely recommend staying at one of the following hotels for a minimum of Saturday night.

Panajachel
Hotel Atitlán is our top hotel recommendation: it is where the wedding will be held, and where we will be staying. Please ask for the "Pineda-Ball" wedding rate ($105.00 + 22% taxes per night).
  • Hotel Dos Mundos
    Calle Santander 4-72, Zona 2
    Panajachel, Sololá

If you are planning on attending our Welcome Party on Thursday, August 28th, 2008, we recommend you stay in Guatemala City for that night. Here are a few recommendations:

Getting There & Getting Around

Getting there . . .
All major U.S. airlines fly into Guatemala City (GUA). Non-stop flights are offered from Atlanta, Los Angeles, Chicago, Virginia, New York, Dallas, Houston and Miami. U.S citizens only need a valid passport, but other nationalities may require a visa.

We have arranged a special discount with American Airlines. If you book your flight through www.aa.com you may use Promotion Code A6288AD and you will receive a 5% discount off the lowest applicable published air fare. Discounts are valid for travel to Guatemala City, Guatemala anytime between August 23rd, 2008-September 6th, 2008.

However, we recommend you use search engines as Sidestep, Orbitz, Expedia and Travelocity to find the flight that best fits your budget and schedule.

Getting around . . .

We do not recommended you rent a car while in Guatemala since getting around can be very confusing and dangerous. Affordable shuttles get you wherever you need to go the second you arrive in Guatemala.
Please arrange travel with one of the following shuttle companies. You might also want to check with your hotel to arrange travel to and from the airport.

While in Guatemala . . .

We hope you plan an extended weekend and travel throughout the Country of Eternal Spring. You might want to consider one- or two-day trips to Antigua, Chichicastenango, and Tikal.

Antigua, the former capital of Guatemala, is one of the best-preserved colonial cities in Latin America and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It sits in a highland valley overlooked by the beautiful "Volcán del Agua." Its beautiful cobblestone streets guide you to historic monuments, churches, squares, parks, and ruins.

Chichicastenango, or "Chichi" for short, is a colorful town that rests in the highlands of Guatemala, about one hour away from Lake Atitlán. On Thursdays and Sundays, its beautiful market brings together textile and crafts vendors from all over the highlands.

Tikal is spectacular. It is the biggest and best preserved Mayan city of the Classical Period. The city is located in the national park (rain forest) in the northern-most province in Guatemala. We suggest that you fly, if you decide to go. The trip is about $250 round trip from Guatemala City. You can easily do it in a day, but it is really worthwhile to stay overnight.

While planning your itinerary, please keep the following in mind:

  • Thursday, August 28th - Welcome Party in Guatemala City
  • Friday, August 29th - Off to Lake Atitlán! (Transportation Provided)
  • Saturday, August 30th - Wedding
  • Sunday, August 31st - Back to Guatemala City! (Transportation Provided)
